Jesus Had a Step Dad Too.

Jesus Had a Step Dad Too is a book for 2nd through 5th grade children of blended families. The story is about Jason, a 12-year-old boy, whose mother has re-married and relocated to a new town. Jason struggles with his like/hate feelings for his new step-dad as he rationalizes this means betrayal of his dad whom he loves dearly.

Based on the Christian story of Jesus, Jesus Had a Step Dad Too identifies that Mary's marriage to Joseph, who was not the biological father of Jesus, means Jesus has a first hand understanding of the challenges of children in blended families.

Here are excerpts from my book:

"Embarrassed by the courtship; annoyed with the expensive wedding party; jealous of being left behind for the honeymoon trip; sad about moving to a new neighborhood; it seemed like the last year of Jason’s life was an unhappy blur.

To make matters worse, Jason’s dad was now further away, called less, and frowned more. His mother, the only aspect of his life that seemed familiar, was acting strangely. She floated dreamily in a world that seemed to exclude Jason; she seemed to spend more and more time with Steve, and when Jason acted up, she seemed more embarrassed that Steve would think Jason is a trouble maker, than about the details of the incident."

" “Exactly!” Grandpa said. “It is hard for any man to be a good step-dad. Joseph could be a good role model for Steve and other step-dads who want to build a loving family.” Grandpa continued, “The paternity of Jesus was discussed in many places in the Bible. Even now, many people find it hard to believe Jesus is the son of God, but they have no problem believing he is the son of Joseph.” "

" Jason was surprised to hear that Steve thought of him as a son, and even more surprised that he planned to take him fishing. Jason whispered, “Papa, I haven’t gone fishing in a long time.” Jason thought to himself, “This might not be such a bad deal for me after all.” "

This first version of the book is in an interactive coloring book format and will eventually be available as a teacher's story board with master color sheets.

This book is part of a planned series of stories depicting children in various situations common to the blended family scenario. Cost of this book is $7.50 each for 1 - 10 copies. Discounts available for volume orders.
